Testimonials from Our StudentsVictor Oviedo
When I came to Arthur Murray in Las Vegas, I was a street dancer. I only knew some latin rhythms, so I decided to learn American Ballroom such as Swing, Fox Trot, Hustle, Disco, etc. Now that I am an educated dancer, I can go to any night club or disco and dance with confidence and enjoy the music. When I was about 73, I started taking lessons from The Arthur Murray Studio. At first I didn't take it very seriously, but the more I learned, the more I wanted to learn. It was so much fun. I didn't feel old when I was dancing. The studio is a wonderful place. We work hard because dancing is work. You have to spend many hours practicing. But we are always having showcases, competitions, parties, etc. so we can show off. And I love to show off! I always have a great partner because there are so many very good teachers. I take a lot of coaching lessons too, and that keeps you on your toes.
I will be ninety years old next year, but I still dance every day, and hope that I will always continue
even though I could be wearing wings… Carmen Peterson, Arthur Murray Student for 16 years -----------------------
My feelings about dance and Arthur Murray can be summed up in a few paragraphs. Have you ever been to a function with successful people that you admire? Then the music starts and they head for the dance floor, not waiting for others to get there first. For them, dancing is not a show, it is part of their success. They enjoy it, and as in all things, they do it well. To know you can do something well is a quality that makes you walk tall. Knowing you can dance is something that never leaves you. Combine both the feeling and knowledge and you cannot help but be a more complete and fun person. As a beginning dancer at Arthur Murray you first expereience the elation when you realize you did the step correct and on time with the music. As you advance you become smoother and your confidence grows. Your friends notice and some may even try to guess what is different about you. Your circle of friends expands. Dancers are quality people that you want to know. They accept you for who you are. You should live the reality! Sow the seeds of confidence--dance--have pride--be admired. Be that dancer that you have always wanted to be.
